If you come from a cold winter climate like I do- the Northeast- cycling outdoors becomes a severe challenge from December through February. A reprieve from the short and cold days is always welcomed, a surprising delight to discover that warm days and pleasant evenings do exist in the winter months. Enabling myself to get a jump start on my fitness- not to mention a mental refresh- is an invigorating way to begin the New Year. And doing with wonderful hosts, great food and great cycling is as good as it gets.
Scottsdale Old town is a charming village setting with a wonderful mix of high end art galleries, gourmet restaurants, shops and museums. Anywhere there is nice weather there is great nightlife, and Scottsdale has a great blend of hot spots from craft beer bars to wine bars and full blown cowboy bars. The McDowell Mountains are home to 600 acres of land that architect Frank Lloyd Wright developed Taliesin West, his winter home and school and currently the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture and home to the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.
With a large second floor apartment with lap pool, fire pit and outdoor terrace and 3 garden level rooms, the Bespoke Inn, built by Kate Hennen and Rob Taynton, offers a secluded and relaxed environment for our stay. With a pleasant courtyard and onsite restaurant (Gio Osso’s Virtu, rated the #1 restaurant in Scottsdale) plus Rob’s bike shop and a fitness studio, the Inn has all the amenities for a personalized stay. Each day includes a late lunch at Virtu, which is incentive to get our riding done! The apartment is available all day for our intimate group with a maximum size of 8 for breakfast, socializing, happy hour and a private dinner from Chef Gio. There is also laundry and full kitchen facilities to provide the perfect home away from home feeling.
