UTR009: An Interview with Michael Beattie
Michael is the host of The Travel and Safety Podcast. He interviews the world’s most celebrated travelers to find out how they stay prepared, stay interested, and make every day an adventure.. Born in 1957 Michael grew up traveling between his parent’s countries of origin, Italy and England. Nurturing his passion for motorcycling he took off on two wheels whenever he could exploring cultures as diverse as the lifestyles of the rich and famous inMonaco to the wilderness of the African Tuareg deserts and the Berber camps of the Atlas Mountains. Emigrating to California he took up sailing as a way to see the world from a different perspective, mountain biking led him to explore the extraordinary parks in the western States and when he got married he found in his partner a woman who has explored Europe and Latin America from childhood. Work has interfered with travel plans but Layne and Michael take road trips, fly, and make every small journey a destination. Their curiosity about the world has not dimmed with the passage of time. And Michael can still ride his Triumph a thousand miles in 24 hours when the need strikes him.
