The Intersection of Cycling and Design with James Thomas

James-Thomas

James Thomas is a successful industrial designer with a love of all things related to cycling. As an avid rider, photographer and artist, his talents and lifelong love of the sport have allowed him to travel all over the world. Today he discusses his beginnings as a BMX racer, how his bicycle design blog got him media access to major cycling events, and his fascinating career in lighting design and home décor.

In this episode, we’ll cover:

  • Why cycling in foreign cities makes you a temporary local.
  • How his cycling blog has evolved over the past 10 years.
  • What it’s like behind the scenes at major cycling events.
  • How shifting trends affect his lighting day job.

James Thomas is fascinated by cycling, hiking, photography, travel, architecture, active transportation, sustainability, and art, not necessarily in that order. He has run his popular blog Bicycle Design for a decade. James is currently the Senior Product Designer at Progress Lighting in Greenville, South Carolina.
